In the winter of 2024, I built a darkroom on an old 5' x 8' trailer. The idea was to have a semi-mobile darkroom that would spend most of its time parked in a relatively permanent location. The first step was removing the old sides, and jacking up the trailer so I'd have a level surface to build on.
The trailer had stake sides, so I removed them, and inserted 2x4x8' in the metal flanges that held the stake sides in place. In t his photo, the horizontal 2x4s are all temporary, and are used for bracing.
I knew I wanted a shed roof (higher on one side than the other), so I determined the roof pitch I wanted, and screwed a 2x4 ledger on either side of the structure at the correct heights. Then, I cut rafters to span the distance.
Once I installed the rafters, I added more vertical 2x4s to the narrow ends of the trailer.
Then, I framed in a door opening on one side
Next, I started sheathing the structure with plywood and T111.
Once I had some sheathing on for diagonal support, I removed the temporary braces and framed in a small opening for an air conditioner.
